Strong growth continues at Great Northern Sale

The Great Northern Brahman Sale continues to see growth year on year, with a total of 159 lots offered in 2025 achieving a total sale clearance of 98.7%.

Across the two days a gross total of $960,550 was achieved, with the top-priced bull fetching $62,500, top-priced heifer making $26,000, and the top semen package selling for $5,000 per straw – a testament to the demand for elite genetics.

The sale kicked off with the Greater Whitsunday Vet Services Heifer and Genetics Sale on Thursday, 23 October. The Sale achieved a 100% clearance with a gross of $140,550, where heifers averaged $10,500 and semen packages averaged $1,692 per straw.

The top-priced heifer at the Night Sale was Lot 6 from Vella Brahmans, selling to Gerard and Teresa Henry of Gregory River Brahmans for $26,000. An NCC Dakota daughter, the heifer showed remarkable donor potential that could integrate into both red and grey herds. The top red heifer of the sale was Lot 12 from Badilla Brahmans, selling to James and Cassandra Kent of Kent Beef for 14,000. She was the first progeny offered out of the $50,000 NCC Red Opal female sired by Kariboe Valley Ventura. The top semen package was Lot 15 from Vella Brahmans, the last semen package offered of Mr US Polled Fusion 711/9 (IMP US) in 2025, selling to Emma and Tony Olsen from Lindley Park Brahmans for $5,000 a straw.

The Great Northern Sale continued on Friday, 24 October with the Bull and Heifer Sale at Proserpine Showgrounds. The Sale saw a 98% clearance with a gross of $820,000. Bulls averaged $8,099 and heifers averaged $3,859.

The top-priced bull in the Day Sale was Lot 11 from Cambil Brahmans, selling to Tracey Watts of Lornville Brahmans for $62,500. Cambil Orlando 8018 (IVF) (H) was sired by the 2020 International Grand Champion bull Mr H Price of Maddox (IMP US), and his dam was Junior Champion at Beef Australia 2018 and Grand Champion Female at the Brisbane Exhibition in 2019. The top-priced red bull of the sale was Lot 55 from Badilla Brahmans, a cherry red polled sire out of the $50,000 NCC Red Opal heifer sired by Kariboe Valley Ventura, selling to Wade and Deb Skinner from Ingham for $18,000.
